The 2 Sounds of X

X = KS
as in box, fox, index, extra, extreme, flex, next, Texas, Mexico

X = GZ
as in example, exit, exist, exact, examine

Which X sound?

Most of the time, X sounds like KS. As you can see from the examples, we often use the softer sound in words that start with ex followed by a vowel.
