In 2008, President Obama received many small donations from young and new voters. He had the political platform of being the outsider candidate. With early polls showing that he leads Republican rivals, Obama announced his reelection campaign for 2012. He sent emails and text messages to his supporters and put a video on his website. In 2012, he will not be the outsider candidate, however. He is expected to raise one billion dollars in campaign funds. This is unprecedented in U.S. politics.
